Unusual Gift Ideas?

Here's one: Your own custom-made song, written, recorded and finished by a professional songwriter in the giftee's favourite genre, with personalised lyrics that mean something to them. Weddings, funerals, birthdays, proposals, a new baby or 'just because' are all reasons to have a song written for your loved one.

As a writer and producer of bespoke songs, I can tell you this: The reaction of the person whom you've had a song commissioned for is utterly priceless. I've seen lots of crying, uncontrollable laughter and marriage proposals being happily accepted on the presentation of their song. A custom song of your own is something not many people get to be a recipient of - and it costs around the same as a slap-up meal or a nice new coat.

This is something they will keep forever, that they can whip out and listen to when they want to remember how much you love them and something they will show to all their friends. Your children will get to hear it and they can pass it onto their children.

A bespoke song will become an heirloom!

I wrote a song for my dad this Fathers' Day. He loves Coldplay and Indie bands, so that's the style I went for. I got my sister to sing on it with me and I expressed all of the things I wanted to say but couldn't find the words in every day life. It was a wonderful experience for all of us and I know he treasures it and it really means something to him as opposed to the usual stale Fathers' Day gifts of socks or chocolate.

Another of my favourite commissions was a song for a very.much loved man who has a terminal illness. His family wanted to express their appreciation and gratitude and I worked with them to make sure everything was just right. I can't imagine a gift that would show as much love as a beautiful song with lyrics containing personal anecdotes and personal messages from each member of his family. Whenever they are missing him, they will be able to play his song and remember him not just in their minds but in their hearts.
